TOMORROW: Book Signing - "Good Girls Don't" by Patti Hawn

Hello My Intellectual Femmely,

Tomorrow night, first time Author Patti Hawn is going to be signing copies of her new book "Good Girls Don't: A Memoir by Patti Hawn" at Pages: A Bookstore in Manhattan Beach.

I think this one is especially cool.  I share a mutual friend with the author and have heard only rave reviews of her as a woman, and a friend. I can't wait to see what she brings as an Authoress.

Here's a little blurb about the book from the website.

"... A deeply personal first-hand account of what it was like to be trapped in an unwanted pregnancy at the close of an era where home economics took precedence over sex education. It tells the story of the last generation of young women to experience life on the eve of the sexual revolution of the sixties and the passing of legislation legalizing abortion.  It is a unique time in history, foreign to an entire generation of women, that resulted in an incredible number of reunions between birth parents and their children --- 20, 30 and 40 years after."

I come from a family of re-united adoption, and I know how powerful that connection is. I can't wait to hear Ms. Hawn talk about her experiences first hand.  Please come along, and bring an open mind, and an open heart.

Where:
Pages: A Bookstore
904 Manhattan Beach Ave.
Manhattan Beach, CA 90266

When:
Friday, Dec. 3rd
6PM - 8PM

TODAY: Pat Benatar Book Signing!! OMG

Hello Ladies, Gents, and Other!

Do you hate us because we've been gone for a week? Don't worry, we're back, and ready to kick off our return to the City of Angels with a very ass kicking, hard rocking, mind blowing, lady-in-leather-pants event.

Get ready....

THE Pat Benatar will be signing copies of her new book "Between A Heart And A Rock Place" (best title ever) tonight at the Borders in Westwood.

Woah, woah, woah, woah, woooooaaahhh!

If you were born anytime before music got terrible, then you grew up idolizing Pat Benatar's skin tight leather pants and bad-ass 'tude. You followed along to every snap and strut, and draped yourself in your parents green and white curtains. And now, we get to shake the hand of the woman who warned us about sex-as-a-weapon.  I can't wait to read the book, and I'm planning on falling all over myself when I actually get to meet The Heartbreaker herself. She was the first woman that I ever heard say the phrase, "We are strong. No one can tell  us we're wrong!" .. and by God, she was right.

What will I say to her? What will I wear? I hope I'm not crying in the picture.

"One of the best-selling female rock stars of all time, the incomparable Pat Benatar writes about her life, rock ’n’ roll, and how her generation changed music forever in Between a Heart and a Rock Place. The first solo female rocker ever to appear on MTV, Benatar writes with the same edge and attitude that was a hallmark of her music—from “Heartbreaker” to “Hit Me with Your Best Shot.” The winner of four consecutive Grammy Awards for Best Female Rock performance, Pat Benatar tells a fascinating, no-holds-barred story of what it was really like to be a woman in the mostly male world of hard rock in the ’80s." - Publisher's Comments

TONIGHT: "Hot Stuff: Disco and the Remaking of American Culture" by Alice Echols - Book Signing

Hi Everyone,

Tonight author and former Disco DJ, Alice Echols is going to be signing copies of her book "Hot Stuff: Disco and the Remaking of American Culture" at Book Soup in West Hollywood.

About The Author:
Alice Echols is a professor of American studies and history at Rutgers University. A former disco deejay, she is the author of the acclaimed biography of Janis Joplin, Scars of Sweet Paradise. She lives in Highland Park, New Jersey.

About The Book:
"Disco may have presented itself as shallow and disposable -- the platforms, polyester, and plastic vibe of it all -- but Echols shows that it was inseparable from the emergence of "gay macho," a rising black middle class, and a growing, if equivocal, openness about female sexuality. The disco scene carved out a haven for gay men who reclaimed their sexuality on dance floors where they had once been surveilled and harassed; it thrust black women onto center stage as some of the genre's most prominent stars; and it paved the way for the opening of Studio 54 and the viral popularity of the shoestring-budget Saturday Night Fever, a movie that challenged traditional notions of masculinity, even for heterosexuals." - Publisher Comments

TONIGHT in LITERATURE: Book Signing - Carrol Burnett!

Hi L.A. Fems!

How cool is this.. Carol Burnett is going to be signing copies of her new book "This Time Together: Laughter and Reflections" at the Borders in Westwood.

For those of you who don't know, Carol Burnett is a pioneer of the female comedian trend in popular culture over the last 40 years. Her sketch comedy show, "The Carol Burnett Show" was the only one of it's kind when it premiered in 1967. The first topical, sketch comedy show helmed by a woman, "The Carol Burnett Show" ran for 11 seasons and won 25 Emmy Awards. Her new book chronicles this chapter in her life.

Let us not forget that Ms. Burnett also played Ms. Hannigan in the 1982 remake of Annie. God I love that movie.

Anyway.. Go buy her book, and get it signed!

7PM
